Trip: Dubeč Fortress and Panská Garden

18. 6. 2025

If you're in the mood for a trip where history meets greenery, head to the ruins of Dubeč Fortress and the Panská Garden. The loop is about nine kilometers long and can be completed on foot or by bike.

  1. Panská Garden is the first stop on the walk — an ideal place to take children to a playground or guide them through a maze. The garden was built on the site of a former illegal landfill and now offers a beautiful setting for both trips and relaxation. You'll find numerous footbridges over the Říčanský stream, a barefoot trail, and even an amphitheater.
  2. Right at the exit from the garden, you'll come across the ruins of Dubeč Fortress, which was constructed before 1508. Oldřich of Záp carried out Renaissance modifications to the fortress, transforming it into the grandest residence in the area, where important peace negotiations were once held. Several years later, the Záp family’s property was confiscated due to their support of the Estates. After several changes in ownership, it came into the hands of the Liechtensteins. Dubeč was later annexed to Uhříněves, which sealed the fortress’s fate. It ceased to serve as a residence and gradually lost its administrative function as well. The structure began to decay, and local residents dismantled it to use the materials for constructing the nearby Baroque granary, which still stands today.
  3. On your way back, stop at the pond called V Rohožníku, a favorite spot among anglers, where you can end your trip in a peaceful setting. Before the Thirty Years’ War, it was the centerpiece of a system of interconnected ponds between Dubeč and Dubeček. Today, it remains as one of the largest ponds in the area.
