To the Hvězda Summer Palace and Game Reserve
8. 9. 2025
Just a short distance from the Residence U Šárky lies a Renaissance summer palace, built between 1555 and 1558 according to the design of the son of Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol.
We will take an 6-kilometer trip here and learn about the history of both the palace and the entire grounds.
The two-story building, designed in the shape of a six-pointed star, originally served as a hunting lodge and a place of rest. Inside, you can visit an exhibition dedicated to the Battle of White Mountain or enjoy a classical music concert. The summer palace is open during the season from April to October, but the game reserve itself is accessible all year round.
The reserve was originally used for royal hunting, and its forest stands connected to the surrounding natural woodlands. However, during the Thirty Years’ War and the Battle of White Mountain, most of the trees were felled, and it was not until the late 18th century that restoration began.
This area is also part of the Natura 2000 network, as it is home to the protected mollusk species Vertigo angustior, which inhabits the wetlands along the Litovice Stream. At the same time, it is an important ornithological site with a wide variety of bird species.
In the reserve, you will also find several playgrounds suitable for both younger and older children.
