From Stodůlky to Dívčí Hrady to See Przewalski’s Horses
22. 8. 2025
If you are looking for a pleasant escape into nature, set out on a journey from Stodůlky to Dívčí Hrady. This 11-kilometer route will take you through the picturesque corners of Prokop Valley.
From Britská čtvrť we head into Central Park, where we pass by the Stodůlky and Nepomuk ponds. The park offers several playgrounds as well as an interesting feature in the form of the Celtic Tree Calendar – a circular arrangement of different tree and shrub species forming a natural amphitheater.
We continue toward the Aswan retention reservoir, which is a popular place to cool off during the summer months. From there we enter Prokop Valley.
The next stop is Butovice Hillfort – an important archaeological site where traces of Bronze Age settlement were found. From this spot, there is a beautiful view of Barrandov and its surroundings. From the hillfort we continue along a rocky slope and connect to the main route through Prokop Valley. If you’re unsure whether you’re on the right path, a good landmark is Dalejský Mill, which you can’t miss along the way.
Beyond the mill awaits an adventurous detour – a former gallery called “Tunnel.” This mining adit, once used for limestone extraction, now, thanks to its length, allows the formation of icicles and dripstones. Walking through it will be an adventure for both children and adults.
A little further on, children will enjoy a small animal enclosure with sheep and goats, which they can pet or feed. Right next to it there is also a playground.
If you’re a fan of the film Cosy Dens (Pelíšky), you will surely recognize the well-known pond where some scenes were filmed. But the pond will also delight those who simply come here for nature and tranquility.
Next comes the rock garden, which is open on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is free, and the garden offers a wealth of flower beds and carefully maintained plants – a joy for every plant lover.
The climb to the northwestern viaduct rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the reddish rocks and the viaduct itself, from which you can watch passing trains. This technical marvel is a favorite spot for photographers and lovers of industrial architecture.
Our journey ends at the Przewalski’s horse enclosure at Dívčí Hrady. These horses – the only truly wild horses in the world – were introduced to this area as part of an ecological project to restore native ecosystems. If you’re lucky, they will come close, giving you a unique opportunity to observe these magnificent animals up close.
After such a full day, you can conveniently continue to Radlická metro station, from where you can easily return to Stodůlky.
