Discover the artworks of Barrandov
24. 3. 2026
You may already have noticed some of the artworks in Kaskády Barrandov. But if you follow the pedestrian route across Barrandov, you will discover many more. A pleasant and undemanding walk awaits you, during which you will come across several interesting objects that enrich the public space and recall the cinematic and artistic legacy of this area.
You can begin the route at Olga Scheinpflugová Square and continue towards Trnkovo Square. Here you will find the Water Cascade with a Water Screen, completed in 2015. The work combines an artistic element with playfulness — it also includes water attractions for children in the form of a mill wheel, a sluice gate, and cascades. At the end stands a metal frame that was originally intended for projections, but today it is mainly complemented by water jets.
From the square, continue through the underpass onto the pedestrian route across Barrandov. After crossing Štěpařská Street, you will come across the Film Strip, a metal sculpture that replaced a vanished artwork from Tille Square. Both its name and its form recall the site’s cinematic history.
As you continue along the route, you cannot miss the Obelisk. This work was created in 1988 by Karel Bečvář and measures 7.2 metres. Nearby, you will also find the Stone Fountain, which replaced the original concrete fountain. In the evening, it is illuminated, giving the space a pleasant atmosphere.
If you continue all the way to the end of Tille Square, you will arrive at another work connected to the film motif — Charlie Chaplin, which is placed under a canopy in front of the bridge leading to Chaplin Square.
At the end of the bridge, you may notice the Cameraman sculpture by Karel Nepraš. This steel sculpture is interesting because it appears slightly different from every angle.
If you walk down from Chaplin Square towards the school, you will come across Silent Film by Vladimír Preclík. It depicts the silhouette of a comedian stepping out of a film frame and once again refers to the atmosphere of old cinema.
You can then return to the Kaskády Barrandov area, where the Bell Tower by Lukáš Rais stands. It is not a bell tower in the literal sense, but rather a symbolic meeting place — a quiet conclusion to the pedestrian axis running across Barrandov.
Nearby, you will also find the work Stone, which symbolizes a beginning. It commemorates the first phase of development in this part of Barrandov and was installed in 2014 after the completion of the first two buildings.
Another stop may be the small park in Ferbasová Street, where you will find Sun and Moon by Mrs Kellerová. It reminds us that a city is not only a place of construction, but also a space for everyday life, rest, and growth. Her other work, Stars, can be found in the small park on Vítová Street. It has a calm presence and symbolically opens up a space for imagination, pause, and a brief glance upward.
Continuing via Hugo Haase Street and Gollová Street, you will eventually reach the square. On the first building on the right, you will see Barrandien Relief by Lukáš Rais. The work may evoke both a film strip and the layered forms of rock reliefs. On the right-hand side of the square stands another of his works, Archimedon. Once the left-hand side of the square is also completed, one more artwork will appear here.
A walk through the art of Barrandov is a pleasant suggestion for an easy outing. It connects public space, architecture, and artworks that people often simply pass by. All it takes is to pause for a moment, and Barrandov reveals itself in a slightly different way.
