A Trip to Dolní Měcholupy: Fun, Art, and History

18. 8. 2025

Would you like to spend a pleasant afternoon with your children, take a walk in nature, admire art, and finish by discovering a piece of history? Head to Dolní Měcholupy, where you can find it all in one place.

We start the journey from Malý háj, from where you can reach the children’s playground Za Kovárnou, located in the park behind the local elementary school. Children can have fun on climbing frames and play elements, while you relax in the shade of the trees.

Continue with a leisurely walk through the park. The paths will lead you to a natural gazebo and a fountain, offering a peaceful spot for relaxation or a picnic. Along the way, you definitely won’t miss the sculpture Sphere with Flowers, created by the well-known sculptor Čestmír Suška – an artist whose works can be found all over Prague. For example, he is the author of the lookout tower at Ladronka, the lookout tower in the botanical garden in Troja, and the founder of Studio Bubec in Řeporyje.

A historic ending at the chapel
If, after your walk through the park, you still have some time and feel like a little historical detour, head a bit further past the park. On Kutnohorská Street, in the middle of the original village square of Dolní Měcholupy, stands a chapel with a belfry from 1870, which replaced a wooden belfry from the 19th century. Today, it is adorned with a new bell from 2007, replacing the original one that was stolen.

Whether you come here for fun, peace, or discovery, you’ll take away a lovely experience from a place where the past beautifully meets the present.
