Vznik Velké Moravy

Another lecture in the Milestones of Czech History series will shed light on the creation of the first major state in our territory – Great Moravia.

You will learn how the Moravian and Nitrian principalities were united, the role played by the Mojmir dynasty, and what written sources and archaeological finds reveal about life in this early Slavic realm. The lecture will also recall the fate of this polity, which became part of European history but eventually succumbed to the pressure of nomadic Hungarians. The event also pays tribute to historian Jan P. Kučera (1948–2025). The lecture will be delivered by Jakub Rychtar.
