Realm of the First Boleslavs: A Central European Power
Come and explore how, under Boleslaus I and Boleslaus II, the early Přemyslid realm grew into a respected power in Central Europe.
The lecture will present the period of the greatest territorial expansion of the early Czech state, when its influence extended far to the north and east and contemporary chroniclers began to marvel at Přemyslid power.
You will learn what this strength was built on – from military might and profitable trade to relations with the Empire and neighbouring lands. The talk will also explain why this golden age was only temporary, how the first signs of decline appeared under Boleslaus II, and how a period of expansion was followed by the weakening of the early Czech state. The lecture is part of Jakub Rychtar’s series Milestones of Czech History.
