Death Sunday with Lučinka
Come to Central Park and experience a traditional spring folk custom presented by the Lučinka folklore ensemble.
The program commemorates “Smrtná neděle” (Death Sunday) – a day when people used to carry out and symbolically “drown” a figure representing Death (also known as Mařena or Morena) to say goodbye to winter.
Another part of the tradition was bringing back a decorated conifer branch or a small tree called lítečko, symbolizing the return of spring to the village. Smrtná neděle is the fifth Sunday of Lent before Easter and is connected with a lively yet touching farewell to the winter season.
