Holešovice as a Laboratory of Modern Living
Prague’s Holešovice has in recent years transformed from an industrial district into a sought-after hub of cultural life and modern living. It is here that architect and urban planner Erik Petrus — active not only in the Czech Republic but also in Indonesia — has made his home. On just 57 m², he created an interior that fuses European precision with the tropical aesthetics of Southeast Asia, becoming both his personal calling card and an experiment with space.
The apartment is designed as a flexible structure that adapts to the needs of everyday life — the kitchen hides a bar as well as a work corner, the bedroom reveals a discreet niche for focused work, while mirrors visually expand the space and bring in more light. Teak wood plays the leading role, complemented by black marble, a concrete ceiling, and green accents that together create a harmonious environment with the atmosphere of the tropics. Every detail, from a hand-blown vase to a vintage citron wood table, adds originality and cultivated distinctiveness to the interior.
The result is a space that is not just a place to live, but also a philosophical reflection on the relationship between people, space, and culture. The apartment in Holešovice proves that even on a modest footprint it is possible to create an environment full of harmony, functionality, and aesthetics — and it may inspire others to approach their own interiors differently, with courage and individuality.
